Tanzania to host continental 33rd travel congress in Arusha

Over 500 delegates are expected to attend the 33rd Africa Travel Association (ATA) congress to be held at the Arusha International Conference Centre in May, this year. To be officially opened by President Jakaya Kikwete, the congress is expected to bring together players in the travel industry including tour operators, dignitaries, ministers and executives from Africa, Europe and North America.

A statement released by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in Dar es Salaam yesterday said, the forthcoming congress will provide a forum for African tourism stakeholders to meet and deliberate on issues concerning tourism development, establish and strengthen existing contacts, plans and programmes that will boost tourism within member states and raise public awareness around the world on Africa's rich and diverse tourism opportunities and products.

In the statement the tourism Permanent Secretary Ms Nyoni said Tanzania will benefit from a number of opportunities such as receiving new visitors, trade in tourism products and services as well as earn foreign income and access to experts in public and private sectors in tourism industry.

"The industry operators, mostly from the United States will have another opportunity to link up with their Tanzanian counterparts. The country will also showcase its various handcraft and travel products, an exhibition will be held at the congress venue," said Nyoni.

She urged tour operators and other related businesses to prepare for the important congress.
"We also welcome potential exhibitors of tourism and related goods and services to contact our offices for more details," she said.

ATA is an international travel-industry association, promoting tourism to the African continent and intra-Africa travel partnership. It is a non profit association established in 1975.
