Maasai luminaries form umbrella organization

Educated Maasai of all levels - primary, secondary and college - from among the pastoral communities have decided to come together under one umbrella organization - Tanzania Pastoral Community Forum (TPCF) in order solve their common problems.
The TPCF founder and Arusha's Regional Coordinator, Joseph Ole Parsambey told the Arusha Times the idea of establishing the organization, which started in October 2007, came about because there was no forum that brought them together to work out their way forward.
Parsambey explained that the umbrella organization aimed at bringing together the numerous Maasai organizations scattered all over Maasailand with no proper coordination. The organization is also meant to keep awareness among the learned youth of the pastoral community on the important role they have in helping their less fortunate kin get education and awareness for better living standards. The official guest at the TPCF inauguration at Emusoi Centre, Singida Regional Commissioner Vincent Parseko Ole Kone said, having an umbrella organization was the best means of giving the community’s educated people a stronger voice in national fora for their advancement.
