AMC to create 2,000 jobs in tourism

The Arusha Municipal Council has put in place a new urban tourism programme that is expected to employ some 2,000 youth and give an annual business turnover of millions of shillings. The municipal environmental secretary, Charles Mwaijibe who was talking during the environment week said the project/programme for urban tourism was at its initial stages and expected to improve the city’s environs.

The projects run by environmental stakeholders will include botanical gardens, Kimandolu Eco Tourism, Cultural Center, Tourism city tour and a City garden.

Mwaijibe said the programme was expected to cut down crime by 70 per cent and improve the municipal environs by 50 per cent.

Speaking at the same gathering, the Kenya Commercial Bank manager, Rogathe Shoo said his bank has braced itself to work for better environments and invited the public for better banking services at KCB.

In the effort to better environs the KCB workers during the week planted some 100 tree seedlings in the area around Themi bridge.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the TANAPA Board Chairman Emmanuel Balele, called on all the municipal residents develop a permanent habit of caring the environment.
