EAC comes up with US$ 40.5m budget

The Council of Ministers of the East African Community on June 14 approved budget proposals for the East African Community for the Financial Year 2008/2009 totaling US$ 40,499,096. The Budget is to be financed by Partner States contribution of total USD 24,377,675 and the development partners contribution of USD 16, 121,42.
It is allocated to the Departments, Directorates and Organs of the East African Community as follows: Office of the Secretary General, USD 1,732,112; Office of the Deputy Secretary General (Finance and Administration, USD 14,625,926; Office of the Deputy Secretary General (Projects and Programmes) USD 7,301,225; and Office of the Deputy Secretary General (Political Federation) USD 1,076,937. Others are: - Customs and Trade, USD 3,371,886; - East African Court of Justice, USD 2,601,540; - East African Legislative Assembly, USD 7,348,643; - Lake Victoria Basin Commission, 2,440,826 According to a press statement from EAC headquarters the Budget Proposals for FY 2008/2009 was restructured following the adjournment of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) debate of the Budget last May when the EAC Council of Ministers presented the Budget Estimates to the EALA sitting held in Nairobi. The adjournment was necessitated by the need to review the Budget Estimates taking into account observations and proposals made by the EALA General Purposes Committee. The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the East African Community, Rt. Hon Eriya Kategaya presented the restructured Budget proposals to the East African Legislative Assembly for debate and approval on June 17. Source: http://www.arushatimes.co.tz/
