The government will lose 28bn/- annually from hunting blocks as the law governing hunting tourism is reviewed, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Ezekiel Maige has' said.

Presenting a report of Parliamentary recommendations on allocation of tourism hunting blocks on Friday Maige said for almost two years, from 2011 to 2012. the government would not be collecting any fees from hunting blocks.

He said according to the new law on wildlife conservation, allocation of hunting blocks would be done within two years before the new period of allocation of hunting blocks starts, which for this matter will be in 2013.

"This will make hunting companies fail to carry out their hunting activities for 2011 because of lack of enough time to prepare for the assignment," he said, adding, "this will also affect hunting companies financially. The government too will not gel its revenues." The report further said that the move would give loopholes for poachers to plunder the country's game reserves.
