A contingent of Miss Tourism beauty pageants will next month start a three-month visit to various tourist sites in the country in a bid to establish a strong cultural market. Gideon Chipungahelo, President of Miss Tourism Tanzania, said the initiative will also help to publicise Tanzania as a great tourist destination.
Killy Janga (Miss Tourism World SADC-2006)

Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam on Friday, he said the tour will make the contestants to be more familiar with matters of the tourism sector and the importance of tourism culture.

"As an agency within the sector, we've a budget of 97m/-. We intend to spend to record documentaries to be handed over to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism for public reference," Chipungahelo added.

He said cultural tourism as well as tourist attractions should be promoted to attract both foreign and local tourists, noting that tourism is the fastest growing sector in Tanzania.
"If well tapped, we will benefit in different ways including job creation, income generation, foreign currency and sustainable development," he added.

Chipungahelo said they are getting support from Al Jazira Entertainment based in Shinyanga Region in organising the expedition.

He appealed to private firms, government institutions, tour operators, travel agents and other stakeholders for more assistance, saying they needed it to meet their goals.

He named the tourism queens set for the tour as Witness Manwingi (Miss Tourism World Africa 2005), Ritha Kavishe (Miss Tourism World Bikini 2007), Killy Janga (Miss Tourism World SADC-2006).

Others are six participants in this year's contest, namely Vayleth Timoth (Miss Tourism Tanzania (2008), Anneth Kanora (Ist Runner-up), Everyn Henry (2nd Runner-up), Elizabeh Killian (3rd Runner-up), Zulfa Yahya (4th Runner-up) and Josina Henry (Talent Award Winner).
