Mount Meru is an active stratovolcano located 70 kilometres (44 miles) west of Mount Kilimanjaro in the nation of Tanzania.
This past weekend I went on one of the most challenging hikes I have ever done- I hiked to the waterfall on Mt. Meru. We went with a guide named Rogers who lives at the base of the mountain. We spent an hour and 1/2 just hiking through the town to get to the base of the mountain then another 1/2 hour to Rogers house. One at Rogers we relaxed and had some tea and donuts. Then we did the main part of the hike which was a good 2-3 hours long. We went through more villages where the people were not very nice I may add- many of the kids stuck there tounges out it was just different than in the main town. From the mountain we had the most beautiful view of the city - I got pics don't worry. Once past the towns we headed through this gorgeous forest and came out with the view of Arusha National Park. Then came the hardest part of all we had to go down this 80 degree steep slope which was kinda slippery from the rain (we were lucky many others had it worse). Anyways I definitely fell down several times down this embankment. Then we came to this river and we walked up it- gorgeous because all of the greenary was above us and we came across several waterfalls along the way. Emily this girl in our group was super worried about schistosimiasis- since we were walking in the water. Then we came to the large waterfall just amazing and the wind coming from it was crazy. We went back the same way u[p the awful embankment and once we got to Rogers his mom made us this awesome lunch then we proceeded back down. Great day but super challenging in my point of view.
