Modern Education No Threat to Traditions
Posted: Tuesday August 25, 2009 3:48 PM BT
Livestock communities in Tanzania should educate their children to create a better society, said the Minister of Trade and Industries, Dr Mary Nagu.
The minister said pastoral communities should not see modern education as a threat to their traditions. Parents in pastoral communities, she said, need to accept change if they are to cope with a fast advancing technological world.
Also speaking at the ceremony, TPCF chairman Amani Selino Laiser said the scholarship fund was created to link the pastoral population to the wider international community including the Food Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the United Nations Food Agricultural Programme (UNWFP). Dr Nagu contributed Tsh 1 million to the TCPF after an impromptu fundraising session on the day. The ELECT - Arusha Diocese Bishop Thomas also contributed Tsh 100,000. The money will be used for the acquisition of land and the construction of offices for the charity. |
